On 30 July, we hosted TEN13 for a packed evening on entrepreneurship through acquisition, usually shortened to ETA.
ETA is a path into business ownership where an operator buys an established company, takes over as its CEO and builds on what is already there. The business has customers, revenue and staff. The job is to look after it and improve it for the next chapter.
The room was roughly half investors and half business owners, which made for good questions. Some people were curious about investment. Others were thinking about succession, or wondering whether running an existing business might suit them better than starting from scratch.
Stew Glynn and Madhur Singhal from TEN13 explained how the model works, what makes a good searcher and where returns can come from. Kylie Wright shared the more personal side: her search for a business, completing the acquisition and taking on the work of running it.
TEN13 has backed three searchers in Australia through its ETA offering. The session was an introduction to a model that is still unfamiliar here, but is increasingly relevant to owners thinking about their next step and operators looking for one.
